Bebo is another social network in the ever growing sea of social networks. Bebo is a place where users can post videos of their lives and their favorite entertainment. Although not well known in America, Bebo has quite a large user base in the UK and is one of the largest social networks in the region.
AOL, which changed their name from America Online in 2006, purchased Bebo for 850 million dollars. They hope to combine the social network with AIM and ICQ instant messaging services to form a new business unit which will be called People Networks. AOL is hoping that this will help give Bebo a worldwide audience.
AOL’s Platform-A will take care advertising for Bebo in all parts of the world except for the UK, Ireland, and Australia. Yahoo still has a contract with Bebo for advertising in these regions until their contract runs out in September 2009 and it is highly doubtful that AOL will look to renew it.
Bebo just recently released its new program called “Gap Year” with six of its users will chronicle their travels around the world and upload them to the site.
