Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick

Sex and the City: the Movie… is exactly what every fan of the series has been waiting to see. Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrell), Miranda Hobbs (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) are back and in the perfect fashion. Okay so maybe not entirely perfect, but the movie does an excellent job of being true to at least the last few seasons of the series and supplying the true ending to the saga that the fans were waiting for.

It is true that the Sex and the City movie is not particularly unique and does not break new ground. The first couple of seasons of sex and the city were all about the sex part with a hearty mix of girlfriend comraderie, the last few seasons moved onto just relationships (with the girlfriends AND boyfriends)… which the movie continues with. Samantha, the sex goddess, has barely any sex in the movie, while all the other characters at least get shown mid-coitus, which was one of the biggest flaws in an otherwise perfect ending.

Just seeing the movie on opening night was a treat. If you were lucky enough to get tickets to a theater attached to a bar and restaurant, sipping your cosmo while enjoying the movie was a marvelous time. The movie theater was packed to the brim with females, dressed to the nines (yes even in manolo blahnik’s). The dresses were a mix of all the character’s fashions, some quirky Carrie’s, conservatively sexy Charlottes, slutty Samantha’s and business hot Mirandas.

So my advice would be, see the movie if you liked the series… if you didn’t watch the series, watch it and THEN see the movie. They do try to recap at the beginning, but it really just doesn’t have the emotional depth without already having the love for the girls and Mr. Big, Steve, and Harry.

The movie takes place four years after the series. The girls continue to juggle jobs and relationships while navigating motherhood, marriage and Manhattan real estate. Chris Noth reprises the iconic role as Carrie‘s handsome yet elusive Mr Big. Miranda‘s husband Steve (David Elgenberg)is also back as is Charlotte‘s dependable man Harry. Samantha‘s main squeeze actor Smith Jarrod (Jason Lewis) is also back! Candice Bergen co–stars as Vogue magazine editor Enid Frick and Jennifer Hudson (”Dreamgirls”)features as Carrie‘s inexperienced assistant, learning the ropes on men and fashion in the big apple.

Sex and the City The Movie’s most memorable quotes:

“I wouldn’t mind being married to you…would you mind being married to me?? ( Big to Carrie)

“Don’t give me a diamond, just give me a big closet” (Carrie to Big)

“How often do you “Color”? (Miranda to the girls)

” I won’t tell you how often, but when Big colors he rarely stays in the lines.” (Carrie to the girls)

“Color? Well I can’t color enough. I would color all day…everyday if I had my way I’d use every crayon in the box.”(Samantha to the girls)

“Let’s get it over and done with” (Miranda to Steve during sex)

“I feel the same way as you feel about Botox. Painful and unnecessary.” (Samantha on being Carrie’s question to be her Maid of Honor)

“Charlotte did a Poughkeepsie in her pants!” (Carrie)

“Ever thine. Ever mine. Ever ours.” (Big)
