Myst is back and this time it is on the Nintendo DS. Myst was first released for the Mac in 1993 and then came to PC in 95 (which was actually when I first played it). Myst fans can expect this portable version to be available on May 13, 2008.
Myst was a world with an extremely beautiful setting and puzzles that were fun and demanding, but by far it was the story that you had to unravel by reading books and documents that were scattered throughout the island. Myst was essentially just clicking and reading, but that was all it needed to be. This was one of the first times playing a game where the storyline was much more interesting then the gameplay.
Myst has had many sequels and has been re-released a few times but the original is what most fans regard as the best part of the series. Real Myst, developed by Cyan, Inc. and Sunsoft, and published by Ubisoft in 2000, was a free-roaming, real-time 3D remake of the original but the gameplay was clunky and considered by most as a very disappointing recreation. Myst DS on the other hand is an almost exact recreation of the original game with the exception of some added material.
Myst DS is controlled almost exclusively by the touch screen on the DS using the stylus as the mouse pointer. The DS version also adds some functionality to make it a little easier on the player. They added a camera so you can take pictures of key objects and a notepad to jot down clues for later. They also added a magnifying glass to help read the tons of books scattered over the island.
