Awaiting the XO-2 from OLPC is like waiting for the Apple iPhone. Not due to release till 2010 Founder Nicholas Negroponte published. The Tech community is anticipating the time for the next generation of mobile laptops. Developed by Japanese company PixelQi and was founded by Mary Lou Jepsen is working to develop dual-touch display. When Laptop Magazine spoke with Mary Lou Jepsen she told them that
“…integrating multi-touch into the LCD itself, rather than adding an additional touch-sensitive screen over the LCD…”
“…The cost savings are tremendous…”
“…image quality is better because nothing is in front of the screen.”
The style matches of an iPhone like Nintendo DS with functionality that a Tablet PC has. The question that lingers is how long would you be able to type or do work, is this all for looks? If you’re an artist you would have a different view, being able to draw on the surface of LCD which has been done by IBM’s Raven X60 but in much more of a futuristic Apple way.
A problem that the iPhone had was its sensibility towards rough play and this worry’s many paying high prices for a business laptop. Battery life also brings a question of concern since many travelers would have the issue of no battery unless near a wall outlet. We are excited and waiting for more news.
