The next movie by writer/director M. Night Shyamalan, The Happening, is coming on Friday, June 13th. The Happening stars Mark Wahlberg, Zooey Deschanel, and John Leguizamo. M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense and Signs) has become famous for his the twist endings and foreshadowing and from the trailer it looks like The Happening fit in perfectly with the rest of his Drama/Sci-Fi/Thillers.
The Happening is about large scale epidemic that begins to consume the world. The movie follows the main characters, Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel, as they take their family on the fun from this unseen attack.
The trailer opens with a group on people on a train that mysteriously stops in the middle of nowhere. When asked why the train has stopped the only answer they get is that the conductors have lost contact with everyone. From here we get a narration of the symptoms of this outbreak, or attack as it is refered to in the trailer, which are 1. loss of speech, 2. physical disorientation, and 3. Death. As the attack spreads throughout the world the trailer takes on the same feeling as M. Night Shyamalan’s Signs. You get the feeling that there is more going on and that may be some sort of monster that we have yet to see. The idea of the unseen is something that M. Night Shyamalan thrives on and puts in most of his films.
