Mongol is set to release in limited cities in the United States on June 6th, 2008, eight months after its September 2007 Russian release. Mongol was written and directed by Russian filmmaker Sergei Bodrov, who won Oscars and other numerous awards for both Mongol (Best Foreign Language Film of the Year 2008) and his 1996 film Prisoner of Mountains (Best Foreign Language Film 1997).

Mongol tells the tale of legendary conqueror Genghis Khan, born as Temudgin in 1162, from his life as child who witnesses everyone in his life murdered after which he is sold into slavery. From there we follow his life as warrior, leader, husband, and one of the most feared men in history. Mongol tells the story of Genghis Khan not as ruthless murderer but as an extrodinary man who grew to become an awe-inspiring leader.

The film is lead by Japanese actor Asano Tadanobu and co-stars Honglei Sun as Genghis Khan’s best friend, Khulan Chuluuna as his wife, Odnyam Odsuren, and Aliy A.
